Night of the Profs 2018
On Friday, 16th of December the DSS team took part in the "Night of the Profs 2018". We got one of the "late-night" slots, meaning that our contribution started at 23 h. Our topic was on speech communication in "unusual" environments. If course, our attempts to improve speech communication in cars was presented, but also some of our student projects, such as the under water masks for the commucation among divers or swimmers. We presented the problems that one faces when building systems to support communication in such environmens. Since we are engineers, also appropriate solutions as well as examples of real systems were shown. All in all, our contribution was not too bad since at the end of the talk (which was close to midnight), most (hopefully all) of the listeners were still awake.
At the beginning of the talk one of the external microphones did not work as expected - which was the reason for sharing microphones with the people from the Fachschaft (see picture on the left).
The DSS team was invited to participate in the last of the "Saturday Morning Physics" (SMP) events in 2018. On December 8th, a Saturday of course, Thorben Kaak, Gerhard Schmidt, and Owe Wisch gave a talk on underwater signal processing. Pupils from all around Schleswig-Holstein were quite interested, especially in the basics of SONAR systems.
