The idea of a DSS mascot was born in summer 2018. At the beginning, it was not really clear what type of character the mascot should get and how it should look like. Then, Claudia Driesen, a very good designer located in Preetz was contacted and - after a short period of brainstorming - "Carl" was born. To our best knowledge his birthday was on September 22nd, 2018. Carl is a beaver, meaning that he is a friendly guy, living and playing on land as well as in the water and he really likes to work. Well, this means that he fits very well in the DSS team ...

If you like Carl and you also need some help in design issues, we can really recommend Claudia. The easiest way to contact her is via her webite. Carl can be found now on several "corners" of our website as well as on several slides used in our lectures and talks. A very first picture of him can be found on left. By the way, Carl gets his name also from Claudia.

Saturday Morning Physics 2018

The DSS team was invited to participate in the last of the "Saturday Morning Physics" (SMP) events in 2018. On December 8th, a Saturday of course, Thorben Kaak, Gerhard Schmidt, and Owe Wisch gave a talk on underwater signal processing. Pupils from all around Schleswig-Holstein were quite interested, especially in the basics of SONAR systems.
