News from 2016

Together with five other chairs/editors the DSS team organized a douple issue of IEEE's Signal Processing Magazine. The first of the two issues was published at the end of November 2016 and we were of course really proud of beeing part of the editing team (John Hansen, Kazuya Takeda, Sanjeev Naik, Mohan Trivedi, Gerhard Schmidt, and Yingying Chen) of this highly respected journal. The topic of the special issue is "Signal Processing for Smart Vehicle Technoloiges".

The first part of the special issue contains six overview papers ranging from driver behaviour/status modelling, the role of dialog systems over active noise control to coordination of cooperative autonomous vehicles.

The second issue will appear in spring 2017.

The DSS team was invited to participate in one of the "Saturday Morning Physics" (SMP) events. On November 19, a saturday of course, Gerhard Schmidt gave a talk on recend trends in automotive audio. Pupils from all around Schleswig-Holstein were quite interested, especially in new loudspeaker technologies.

Before the talk of Gerhard Schmidt, Sönke Harms from the physics department gave an excellent talk on electro mobility and the priciples of electrical machines. Together, we tried to keep pupils interested in starting a professional career in the very interesting field of technical sciences.

After a very sucessfull first funding period our four company founders will continue their hard work now in their own facilities. A few of them (Christian and Jochen) were the very first members of the DSS team and also the other two (Stephan and Merikan) had a long DSS history prior to their ACE/sonoware time.

The fact that they leave now are good and bad news at the same time. Good, because it means that their founding process is very sucessful until now. Bad, because we will loose some very nice colleagues and friends.

Anyhow, we wish them all the best and hope, of course, to see them quite often here on the "sunny side of the fjord".

October 12th, 2016

On 5th to 7th October the 12th ITG Conference was held in Paderborn, Germany with about 150 participants. Our Group also participated at this conference with five contributions and the attendance at the conference.

Topics like machine learning for speech enhancement, speech processing for ear mounted devices, quality evaluation, speech & diagnostics and efficient modeling automatic speech recognition were presented and discussed.

We like to thank the organizing team for a great conference.

February 5th, 2016

The 5th February 2016 was a very special day for our DSS group in general and for the former student Phillip Durdaut in particular. The highest award for engineering diploma and master theses in northern Germany is the prize awarded from the Petersen foundation. Phillip Durdaut won the first prize for his master thesis "Real-time acquisition of a cardiogram by means of magnetoelectric sensors and electrocardiographic synchronisation".

The DSS group congratulates him!
